Henry IV begins 8 years after the end of Richard II. Bolingbroke's reign is not going as planned. His kingdom is in open rebellion, led by the fiery and charismatic Henry 'Hotspur' Percy. Moreover, his son Hal has run away and spends his time with the drunken thief and knight, Sir John Falstaff. As Hotspur's rebellion intensifies, Hal must decide whether to continue to shirk the responsibilities that his absentee father has forced upon him, or to embrace his destiny as the future King Henry V.
